What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But Atlassian’s Team ’22 had so many exciting updates that we can’t wait to share them with you.
Atlassian was back with its annual flagship conference – Team ‘22. And this time, it happened in person (yes, in person after a gap of 3 years) in Las Vegas. As an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner and an official sponsor, our team at Modus Create attended the entire three-day event.
Modus Create’s Team at Team ’22
This year, Team ’22 featured four primary themes: Agile & DevOps, ITSM, Teamwork Culture, and Open Work Management. There were multiple sessions and discussions on modern practices, ways customers use and benefit from Atlassian tools.
Atlassian also used the event to share new announcements about their tools and platform. Below is a recap of some of the biggest news from Team ‘22.
Atlas — The New Teamwork Directory
Atlassian announced a brand new product — Atlas, a teamwork directory that facilitates open sharing and provides context about work within and across teams. Atlassian intends to make Atlas the go-to tool for internal company updates.
Atlas provides a holistic view of all the updates, projects and goals, knowledge, and people in your organization. You have a homepage for every project and can define project goals and the definition of success. Using smart links, you can embed live data from multiple applications to the project pages in Atlas.
According to Okta’s Business at Work report, companies with more than 2,000 employees deploy an average of 187 apps. Atlas is an attempt by Atlassian to connect the dots across teams. It fosters a shared understanding of the context of work without stripping away your team’s right to use the tools they like.

Atlas has the potential to become the single source of truth for all the updates or progress in your organization. It will eliminate the need for multiple status update meetings. Atlas is particularly exciting for organizations that are going through digital transformation and are looking to create visibility and alignment of work across different teams, organizations, and time zones.
Atlassian Data Lake — Simplifying Cross-Platform Analysis
Atlassian Data Lake contains cross-product and cross-instance data for easy analysis with pre-modeled and enriched fields to speed up insight generation. For now, Atlassian Data Lake will include data from Jira Software and Jira Service Management. Its scope will expand to incorporate other Atlassian products in the future.
In the past, although Atlassian products offered great in-product dashboards, many teams struggled to build cross-platform custom reports because it required a deep understanding of APIs and scripts. Atlassian Data Lake will simplify custom dashboards, reporting, and analysis. It will be a great asset for organizations using multiple Atlassian products, helping them create transparent executive dashboards more easily.
Atlassian Analytics — Flexible Access & Data Visualization
Atlassian Analytics is a simple, flexible hub that seamlessly connects to the Atlassian Data Lake and allows users to access and visualize data in multiple ways. It offers both a no-code interface and the ability to query the data lake using standard SQL queries.

Atlassian Analytics also plans to integrate with external business intelligence (BI) tools, such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI, in the near future. This means you’ll be able to get insights from the Atlassian suite in your favorite analytics platform.
New Editor Feature
Atlassian has introduced a new feature in Editor. Earlier, you could insert a table in the Confluence page (inline) and populate it with data. But now, it will be possible to automatically create charts based on that data. There are multiple types of charts to choose from. The Editor will be available across Atlassian Tools like Confluence, Atlas, Trello, etc.
The new editor lets you visualize data while editing/creating the page without needing additional macros or applications. It’s a great feature that will save businesses, and any Atlassian expert, a lot of time.
Automation & Smart Links in Confluence
Automation in Jira has proved to be a great asset, allowing you to automate repetitive tasks like sending an email on a certain action, creating weekly tasks, transitioning issues automatically based on their field value, etc. Now, the same power of automation will be coming to Confluence. You will be able to automate tasks like archiving Confluence pages that didn’t have any activity in the last 60 days, commenting, copying a Confluence page, adding or removing labels, etc. This can save a lot of time spent on such repetitive tasks.
You can now also embed and visualize live data from external applications within your Confluence pages with Smart Links, which already supports 40 integrations. Reducing the need to switch between apps to visualize data is a powerful UX improvement by Atlassian.
Data Residency & Compliance
Atlassian’s ecosystem is growing at a rapid pace. Its marketplace now has more than 5600 applications. Team ‘22 witnessed exciting updates that will bring Atlassian solutions to new enterprises and industries. We can really see the impact of Atlassian’s ongoing commitment to making its Cloud suite of products perfectly suited for the companies with requirements for the largest scale, strictest security, and most options for customization and integration.
- Supporting More Compliances
Atlassian announced that it has been working to support more compliances and will add FedRAMP and BYOK Encryption to their platform in the future, opening Atlassian solutions to several enterprises in high integrity industries.
- Data Residency in Four New Countries
Data Residency will be available in Canada, Japan, UK, and Germany. This will help organizations that need their data within these physical or geographic locations to migrate to Atlassian Cloud.
- Bigger, Better Cloud
Atlassian Cloud instances can now support up to 50k users per instance, bringing the benefits of the cloud to large enterprises that until now were forced to host data on-premises due to their scale.
Keynotes and Seminars
In addition to exciting product releases and updates, there were tons of great panels, keynotes and workshops at Team ‘22. A few of our favorites were:
- In Conversation with Bob Iger: Scott Farquhar and Bob Iger, former CEO and Chairman of The Walt Disney Company, discussed navigating change, why it’s imperative to innovate, and the cultural transformations of our time.

These sessions shared guidance on solving specific teamwork challenges with Atlassian products. You can watch most of them on Team’ 22’s website.
